Ingredients

  • 3 lb. (48oz) boneless whole pork loin roast (trimmed of fat)
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
  • nonstick cooking spray
  • 1/4 cup (44g) chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup (175g) ketchup
  • 1/3 cup (57g) brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp. hoisin sauce
  • 1½ tsp. Chinese style mustard
  • 1 tsp. soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. Chinese five spice powder

Method

  1. Set oven to 350°F (176°C).
  2. Sprinkle roast with garlic salt and pepper. Place in a roasting pan and bake, uncovered, for 40 minutes.
  3. In a nonstick sauce pan, spray with cooking spray and sauté the onions. Stir in remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Simmer uncovered until sauce is reduced to 3/4 cup, stirring often (20-25 minutes).
  4. Pour sauce over pork. Bake an additional 10-20 minutes, until a meat thermometer reads 145°F (62°C).
  5. Remove from the oven, cover with foil and let the roast rest 10-15 minutes before slicing to keep the juices in.
